Options. That was a key reason why Kay Eddy, a mother of four and a grandmother of one, decided to enroll in the BSW program at the School of Social Work.
Eddy was working in long-term care and had begun going back to college at IU-Kokomo. Two colleagues in the social work profession convinced her to switch to the bachelor of social work program.
“With a social work degree there are so many options or roads to take, working with any age group,” said Eddy, whose primary focus is helping the elderly.
Eddy has used a combination of online courses as well as attending courses on the IUPUI campus.
But she found her classes on campus carried an added bonus.
“I really have enjoyed coming to IUPUI and interacting with staff and other students,” Eddy said. “Everyone in the School of Social Work department has been very friendly and seem passionate about the field, which is very motivating.”
“The fourth flour of the Education/Social Work building is a great place to study and relax with other students and also be able to interact with staff. Even Dean Patchner will say hello and visit with students who are present.”
Eddy plans on graduating with her BSW degree in May of 2009 and expects to return to work on her Master of Social Work degree.
